Valtra unveils new high-power S series tractors

At Agritechnica Valtra will unveil one of the 260 HP prototypes of its new S series. The series extends the current Valtra Valmet horsepower range and provides new level of performance for large scale farming and contracting. With this new series Valtra sets the benchmark for 21st century tractor technology in terms of both design and features.

In developing the new series the emphasis has been placed on reliability and boosting productivity, particularly through improvements in the driver’s working environment. In terms of engineering the new range relies to a large extent on tried and tested solutions. The power is provided by large displacement electronically controlled Sisudiesel engines manufactured by Sisu Diesel Inc. which are linked via a Voith turbine clutch to the reliable ZF power transmission. The hydraulic system is extremely powerful and versatile and operates on the load sensing principle. In terms of cab ergonomics Valtra is now clearly at the leading edge. In the electronics industry it is easily witnessed that Nokia and Valtra have a shared Finnish heritage.

Valtra has responded to the rise in productivity requirements by increasing versatility, in clear contrast to the American trend in large tractors. The next generation TwinTrac double control system makes driving the tractor in both directions extremely pleasant. For this reason the tractor’s front linkage is also fully specified in terms of hydraulic functions and couplings. The tractor also performs transporting tasks effortlessly thanks to its 50 km/h speed and suspended front axle and cab.

Where the power transmission is concerned Valtra has cooperated closely with ZF. The well known and reliable T7300 transmission has been equipped with the features of Valtra-developed HiTech control system. In addition the transmission, engine and hydraulics data systems have been interconnected via a CAN-Bus.

In the power transmission the proven reliability and excellent efficiency of a mechanical gearbox has been combined with next generation computer-based control of the Powershift and reversing, which adapts automatically to different driving situations, loads and temperatures. The clutch pedal is needed only when starting the engine and in emergency situations. The sprung front axle is made by ZF.

The Valtra Valmet S series is a true driver’s tractor. The suspended front axle and cab permit higher working and driving speeds. The ergonomics of the state-of-the -cab rank among the finest in the tractor world. The cab is spacious and provides excellent visibility in all directions and with all implements. The noise level is extremely low due to the particular attention paid to high quality trim and sealing as well as cab suspension. The layout of the controls has been developed in cooperation with professional tractor users, partly using the best self-propelled machines as models, with the aim of reaching the same ergonomic level as these in each area of work.

Automatic air conditioning is naturally fitted as standard, as well as a hands-free mobile phone. Thanks to the preprogrammable hydraulics the best possible output is obtained from implements coupled both in front and behind. GPS and precision cultivation communications have been catered for via a Claas-developed Agrocom interface.

The new S series will be qualified in Valtra´s extremely demanding testing and quality process that has contributed to the success of other Valtra Valmet model ranges. Therefore, the sales can be expected to begin earliest in the first half of 2001.
