MTD began building snowmobiles for the 1971 season under the Trackmaster name. For the 1972 season MTD began branding the snowmobiles as Columbia, a bicycle manufacturer that MTD had acquired in 1967. Production continued through the 1974 season when MTD exited the snowmobile market.
