In Katy, Texas, engineer Jones Copeland teamed up with farmer Woods to build a heavy tractor capable of handling the difficult terrain of rice farming. Their first tractor was a success, and the two went on to build eight more tractors before moving their operations to Wharton, Texas. Their success attracted the interest of the Rome Plow company, who purchased Woods & Copeland in 1976 and moved the manufacturing to Georgia.
