Meaning "progress" in German, Fortschritt is the name commonly applied to a series of tractors produced by the VEB agricultural collective in the former East Germany. The collective was formed in 1948, and took the Fortschritt name in 1955. In 1964, work began on a new tractor which was to become the ZT series. These tractors were state-of-the-art when they were originally built. A lack of continued reseach funding led to a stagnation of the line. Tractor production ended when Germany reunifed in 1989. Various Fortschritt assets were purchased by Case and remained in operation until 2004, when all production was closed.
