Escorts Agricultural Machines Limited started in India in 1948. Escorts started as a franchise of Minneapolis-Moline. In 1958, Escorts started importing Massey Ferguson tractors for sale in India. Manufacturing operations began in 1960 and the plant was soon making Ursus tractors under license. In 1969, Escorts contracted with Ford and began building the Ford 3000 at their factory in India. The contract with Ford-New Holland was dissolved in 1996, and Escorts began producing tractors under their own Farmtrac brand. In 1998, the Powertrac brand was added, and Escorts purchased Long Agribusiness to distribute tractors in the United States.
